** A joy set before us

** Luke 5:31

** “And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.”

Jesus was in Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as His custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read from the book of Isaiah, saying, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:18-19).

Consider these most profound words of Jesus for a moment.

Sadly, we who know Christ are often too busy with our own lives to witness the countless people who are spiritually destitute and dying, the ever growing number of those who are brokenhearted and without hope, the millions who are spiritually captive or blind with no way out, and the so very many who are just battered and bruised by this world – just as each of us were when Jesus found us along the road; stripped of our dignity, wounded in our hearts and minds and half dead spiritually – from the savageness of the evil one, the thief, who comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

But Jesus came that we may have life, and have it more abundantly. He reached out His hand, touched our hearts and minds, took up residence deep within our spirit and healed our soul, making us a new man in and through Him and the power of His resurrection.

May we not be counted amongst those who are too busy to do the will of our Father in heaven. Our Father takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked and would have that none should perish but that all would come to repentance and gain everlasting life through His Son. The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few.

So today, despite what may be coming against us, let us do all things without murmuring and complaining. Let us look around and ask of the Lord that He would send each one of us into His harvest (in our homes, our workplace, our communities), that we may share the true love of God and preach the name of Jesus to a hurting, dying and perverse generation; shining as lights in the world; boldly and lovingly holding out the word of life, peace and truth.

Brothers and sister in Christ, the sick and dying are crying out for the Master Physician. Let us count it a joy set before us to introduce them to Jesus and to do the will of our Father who has graciously and mercifully raised us from the dead in and through His Son; Jesus Christ our King of Kings.

Additional scriptures for reading:
Matthew 5
13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
